What is liposuction?
Liposuction removes localised fat deposits that have not responded to diet and exercise — most often the abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms or under the chin — through small incisions using a fine cannula. It is a contouring operation, not a weight-loss operation: the aim is to change shape in specific areas, and the amount that can be safely removed in one session is limited. Skin quality matters, because the skin has to retract over the new contour.

Will the fat come back?+
The fat cells removed do not return. However, the cells left behind can still enlarge if you gain weight, and fat may then become more noticeable in untreated areas. A stable weight is what protects the result.
Do I have to wear a compression garment?+
Yes, typically for four to six weeks. It controls swelling and helps the skin settle smoothly onto the new contour. Patients who abandon it early are the ones most likely to be unhappy with irregularities.
